Iraq cannot yet sustain its army despite having managed to quell a violent insurgency, US and local commanders told AFP, raising the prospect that American troops will stay on beyond 2011.

Minister Abd al-Qadir al-Mufriji

Responsible for the security and stability of that country's territory, which includes the oversight of the armed forces (Navy, Air Force, Army). In doing so, it is the Ministry's duty to train, equip and organize the armed forces.

Responsible for the internal security of Iraq, encompassing the organization and management of the country's police forces, emergency response units, border security.
