Karbala governor announces two week deadline to evacuate state properties

Karbala, 08 May 2008 (Voices of Iraq)

Karbala governor on Wedsday said he offered political parties and movements a two week deadline to evacuate government properties and premises in the Shiite province.

“We gave orders to all political parties and religious groupings in the province to evacuate government properties used by them as headquarters,” Akeel al-Khazali, Karbala governor, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The governor did not provide details about the measures that would be taken against the parties that reject leaving the premises, but he said “ten parties had already left the buildings.”

He noted “there are still six buildings being used by parties and religious groupings in central Karbala and Hindiya.”

“The local government is planning to rent the premises according to the procedures of leasing state properties,” he added.

Karbala, the capital city of Karbala province, lies 110 km south-west of Baghdad
