Negotiations with PM over IAF minister candidates were “constructive”-VP

Baghdad, 08 May 2008 (Voices of Iraq)

Iraqi Vice President (VP) Tareq al-Hashemi termed the talks with the PM Nouri al-Maliki on revising the candidae names for the cabinet nominated by the Iraqi Accordance Front (IAF) as “constructive,” a VP office statement said on Wednesday.

“The talks on revising the IAF candidated for ministries were constructive,” read a VP office statement received by Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).

The VP received PM al-Maliki to discuss the IAF candiades for cabinets posts and to brief the premiers about the results of Hashemi’s visit to Turkey.

IAF, biggest Sunni parliamentary bloc, withdrew from the government in August of 2007, demanding a greater role in political and security decision-making.

Yet the negotiations of IAF's return to cabinet were pushed forward after the government’s measures in Basra clashes last March and in issuing public amnest law for uncovicted detainees.

Earlier, government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said his government “had reservations over IAF candidates,” citing “lack of qualifications” as a reason.

Adnan al-Duleimi, the IAF chief, said in response “government’s reservations are a constitional right,” and his bloc “would take them seriously.”
